bias NEW DELHI, March 8 (ANI) - The
United nations World Food Programme has reiterated its commitment to use its resources
in interventions that seek to reduce gender-related inequalities. In a statement released on the
occasion of International Women's Day today, the WFP said in India, 2.6
million mothers and children have been assisted by it under the Integrated Child
Development Services (ICDS) in the states of Assam, Bihar, Gujarat, Kerala,
Madhya Pradesh, Orissa, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. Funds generated
for development activities in the country in 1998 were $ 2.9 million, while
tentative food allocations for 1999 were 82,000 metric tonnes (25 million
dollars), a WFP release said. Other goals include allocation of
60 per cent of WFP resources in a country with a significant gender gap to
women and girls, 25 per cent of the results of food-for-work projects to
directly benefit women and 50 per cent of its own employees to be women.
