World Food Programme (WFP), is committed to use its resources in interventions that seek to reduce areas of gender inequality.

Hunger and poverty affect women and men disproportionately and therefore WFP food aid is particularly focused on women. It’s commitment to improve the condition of women is based on the fundamental premise that strengthening opportunities and options for women is the key to solutions to the problems of hunger and poverty. WFP touches more than 30 million women’s lives.

WFP India lays special emphasis on women through its various gender-sensitive policies and activities.  WFP works to ensure that activities help women to gain better access to food, education, and involvement in community decisions. It does this by placing food directly in the hands of women, setting aside funds that may only be invested in activities that directly benefit or are controlled by women, and using gender-sensitive planning in its programs.
