The Planning Commission of the Government of India, M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation and the World Food Programme organised a national consultation on "Towards Hunger Free India".  

 

At the inaugural function, the book "Enabling Development: Food Assistance in South Asia" and the atlas "Food Insecurity Atlas of Rural India" were released by the Honourable Prime Minister of India, Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

The objective of the one and a half day consultation was to provide valuable inputs to the food security debate in India and the Government’s policy on food assistance programmes during the Tenth Five Year Plan. The consultation culminated in the formation of a ten point agenda for action for ensuring sustainable national food security.  Eminent scholars, administrators, academicians, representatives of the Government, international agencies and NGOs participated in the discussions.
